自身より大きな相手(車)に対し、怯むことなく鎌を構え、立ち向かう蟷螂(とうろう=カマキリ)を
透かし、故事「蟷螂の斧」を画題としている。その勇猛な姿勢は、武士の心構えを示していると
され好まれた。江戸時代中期-後期。

A mantis is trying to fight against big powerful enemy (a carriage) by two small sickles
without considerations of own power. It is said that it represents Samurai’s mental attitude
for the battle, and favored by them from its bravery. 18-19c.

2) 鐔 月見兎図 (無銘)

2) 寸法:縦68.0×横62.0×厚さ3.0 (mm)
雲間から覗く月と、その月を見上げる兎を透かし技法で真鍮地に表現した、風情味わえる技巧品。
古来より月を愛でる慣習は上流社会で尊ばれ、月見の宴を催し祝った。
江戸時代中期-後期。

The moon seen through a break in the clouds with a rabbit that look up at the moon,
are depicted on the brass ground.
Holding a moon-viewing banquet is very traditional important custom for the upper-
classpeople who are wishing prosperity. 18-19c.


3)鐔 秋草に虫図 加賀象嵌 (無銘)

3) 寸法:縦57.0×横53.0×厚さ4.0 (mm)
細く美しい加賀平象嵌が上品に施され、余白で広がりを設けた四分一磨地の作。
前田家の庇護で繁栄した加賀金工による、秋の情景味わえる優品。江戸時代中期。
保存鑑定書付。

Spatial expanse is created by composition of leaving a space, and autumn insects and
plant are depicted by fine gold flat inlay technique of a Kaga artisan on Shibuichi
(alloy of silver and copper etc.) ground.
The Kaga artisans prospered under the patronage of powerful feudal lord, Maeda clan
in Kaga, now Ishikawa prefecture. Hozon certificate paper. 18c.

4)縁頭 秋草図 無銘 美濃

4) 寸法:(縁) 縦38.5×横22.5×厚さ1.2 (mm) (頭) 縦33.0×横17.0×厚さ1.1 (mm)
秋草を愛でる気持ちは古来より深く、特に美濃金工に好んで用いられ多くの名品を残している。
美濃彫りの技術が用いられ、格調高くその作柄は広く愛好されている。江戸時代前期-中期。

Japanese people have been enjoyed the beauty of autumn flowers since old time.
It seems a traditional work of Mino school which was active in present Gifu prefecture.
It is especially good at describing the autumn scene such a fine work. 17-18c.
